Watervale Riesling 2007 - Huon Hooke Sept 2007
30/11/2007
This, the regular Jim Barry Watervale Riesling, has been repackaged with a snappy new label but the wine is still modestly priced and great value for money. It has slightly lifted aromas of tangy herbal and straw–like fruit, plus hints of lemon and lime. It’s remarkably deep concentrated in the mouth: clean, dry and refined, with more power than expected for the money. The palate is streamline: linear and refined, intense yet also delicate. It’s really amazing value. It drinks well now and should continue to do so, as it changes and develops over the coming decade. 94/100.
Food all white-fleshed fish pan fried, grilled or baked, and served with lots of lemon and fresh herbs; Caesar salad; crudités with aioli.
