A cracking vintage for 2022

The 2022 vintage kicked off in late February with a great start. After a mild growing season, the grapes showed real promise, with small berries and healthy, vigorous vines. These conditions continued into Autumn, allowing for slow, even ripening of fruit.

We are now on the tail end of vintage, after an enormous effort from our teams in the vineyard and cellar. Our head winemaker Tom Barry is over the moon with the quality and yield of grapes, particularly the reds, offering an abundant complexity of flavours and character on the palate.

“The yields have exceeded our expectations, and the flavour is outstanding. There is still a lot of work to be done in the winery, but we are thrilled with the results so far and always feel a sense of relief when the grapes are off the vine and safe in their tanks,” he said.

The Riesling has been a particular highlight of the vintage with the slow ripening resulting in amazing flavour development and natural acid. Minimal sun exposure has lead to a vibrant colour and the wines are demonstrating delicious natural fruit sweetness.

We are now patiently waiting for our grapes in the Coonawarra to ripen, to round out what has our best vintage in a decade.
